The class full of chocolate and cookies

ESL 114 is one of my favorite classes in UIUC.

Writing an academic paper using a foreign language was hard for me, I used to struggle every time when I was writing a lab report. Well, after taking this class, I found it is not as hard as it used to be.

I learned to divide writing process into several steps and work on one each time, instead of working on everything at the same time. Also, most important thing I learned is the structure of an academic paper.

At the beginning , we need a attention getter, and thesis statement for the first paragraph. After that, we will need to write a topic sentences for each paragraph and supporting sentences for each of them.

Thanks to Joy, the class was full of fun. I really like the group activities and "chocolate & cookies" part !
Thanks to my every classmate, it is my pleasure to study with each of you guys.

Advertising

Sometimes, I found that an advertising could be very interesting. Some tell you a story by a short video, some in pictures. Well, recently, I just noticed that the new season’s ad of Louis Vuitton which appears on ELLE magazine is very attractive. The whole photograph is a foldout of ELLE, featuring Pop Queen Madonna, the new face of French fashion house Louis Vuitton, starring in their spring and summer 10 campaign, takes in a sepia-toned setting reminiscent of a Paris cafĂ© in the Forties, with LV’s dress, purse, shoe, jewelry and handbag. It provokes the reader's desire to go buy LV’s products.

In the advertising, the image takes in a 40’s bar, several chairs place pell-mell , few desks with wine glasses on it, and two big pictures on the separate wall .In the front of the image, from left to right, Madonna lies on two bentwood chairs, one chair is holding her head, and she facing the camera. Another chair braces her back and waist. Her left hand wears eight animal-print bangles is holding on the top of the backrest, and her right hand wears four metal bracelets put on the ground. On the front left, which also is the nearest and most notable position, has a same bentwood chair places in opposite direction, a collection's emblematic slouchy bags in Monogram canvas and Monogram-embossed leather handing on its backrest. Madonna wears the new season’s sexy black top with stripe of gold color paillette, a short tinge orange tassel feather skirt, a black net stocking, and ethnic-inspired sandals. She looks so fashion and fabulous.

The whole image’s tone is dusky; it makes the campaign very bold, sensual and atmospheric. Also, Madonna‘s pose looks serene and totally in control, she is the ultimate performer in this ads.

Should Death Penalty Be Abolished?

Should death penalty be abolished or not has been a controversial topic around the world for several decades. In the United States, there are 35 out of 50 states which have death penalty, and according to the recent survey, 65 percent of the American population supports the death penalty as an appropriate punishment for murder. Supporter of death penalty believe that threat of the death penalty could be used to urge capital defendants to plead guilty, testify against accomplices, or disclose the location of the victim's body. People who against the capital punishment argue that the death penalty specifically and explicitly violates the right to life clause stated in most modern constitutions and human right treaties. However, I think the death penalty shouldn’t be abolished because its threaten power can reduce the criminal rate effectively.

In case to abolish death penalty, it needs to satisfy some qualification first, which includes a country has a very stable and secure society and low criminal rate. Yet America society is stable and secure, but its criminal rate is pretty high, we often hear crime behavior from news. Also, the prisons are crowded here.
Every time we mention death penalty, people will bethink of its serious consequences. In fact, severe punishment creates more fear. Therefore, the potential criminal or people who are likely to commit crime will threaten by the deterrence of death penalty, and the crime rate will decrease simultaneously. In addition, it sounds fear that if you take someone‘s life, the society decide take your own life to protect other innocent people, to eliminate the threaten from those criminal.

Although death penalty has its limitation of preventing crime, but I believe its threaten power does deter some crime, and helps reduce the criminal rate. Hence, the U.S should keep the death penalty.

How to choose a Car?

While the first sememster I was here,I realized it is neccessary to have a car, since Champaign is such a big town. I believe nobody will disagree if he or she has ever taken a bus to Warmart.I throught it is credulous to spend an hour on travelling several miles away only. Thus,I decided to buy a car next sememster.

Choosing a car is a big task for me,because I want to buy a second hand car.Since they are much cheaper than brand new cars. Personally, I don't really know a lot about cars. However, I learned some skill about choosing a car from my friends. They may be helpful for you too.

Firstly, check the Carfax. It is one of the most important steps in choosing a second hand car. The carfax tells you not only about the histroy of the car, but also whether the car is in condition now.It provide information which you can not observe by eyes. Carefully read the carfax will makes you avoid from buying a car which has been through an accident. Also, it tells the exact mileage and a lot of useful information.

Secondly, try a test drive. It would be better if you invited someone who knows about car. In testing drive, try every single equipment in the car. For example, lights, CD player, break, engine and etc. Listen to the sound of engine and feel the power supply when you step on the accelerator.

Thirdly, to bargain about the price. There is a saying in America, " Never believe the price given by three kinds of people, a doctor, a lawer and a car dealer." So, the price can be much lower if you aks a better price.

Finnaly, all you have to do is fasten your sitbelt and enjoy the trip!

Compare and Contrast.

Ameirican food / Asian Food

Similarity.
1. One of the most important similarities,is that they are made by meat and vegatables.
For example, like Chess burger and Chinese dumpling.
2.Another similarity is taht, they are all very popular around the world.
I have seen a lot of Chinese and Korea restrurant in campus, they also have same number as restrant which serve American food.
3.In addition, they are represent their own culture.
Because of the long history of countries in Asia, they have more different kinds, while American food are more concentrate on providing high energy.
Differences.
1. Among Asian food, rice plays an important role, people eat rice everyday, but in American food, rice is not that important.
For example, in Chinese restruant, they will serve a big bow of rice. But not in American food restrant.
2. In American food, most of them are fried, but in Asian food, most of them are cooked by boiling water.
For example, in KFC, most of the food they serve are fried. But in Chinese restrant, most of them are boiled.
3. Asian food is healthier in most of way than American food.
Because of their different concentration, Asian food concentrate on heathier life.

Fashion beggar

In now days, everyone has his or her own definition on fashion. People used to believe one has to spend a lot of money to be fashion, but beggers have proved that being fashion is not only belong to someone rich.

His name is Chris, a begger from New York City. He has lived there for several decades and he can't even remember his hometown. During the day time, he walks in Manhattan's streets aimlessly and sleep anywhere keep him warm at night. The fashion people walking by inspired him a lot, and he decided to define his own fashion. He can well match clothes and jewerys which seems useless for rich people in his own way and finnally founded by a photographer in a fashion magazine.

You may wonder if only begger in New York could be fashion, let's see this guy in China, who is more popular than most of singers and actors recently.

He is a beggar in NingBo, China. Someone even found similarity with a model in a fashion show of D&G. Eventhrough, he may has never read a fashion magazine in his whole life, but the idea of being fashion came natrully. Moreover, NingBo is not a big city like New York and he can't absorb much element of fashion there. Since these photos first published on the Internet, this guy became very popular even in Japan.

Fashion doesn't cost much, when you are chasing your own style.
